A SOOTHING POTION. A sore throat is much comforted and a cold often prevented in its initial stages by taking a hot lime drink Inst thing at night. Squeeze plenty of lime juice. Add a table spoonful of honey and fill up with water. Those who can take spirits imay add a stiff peg of whisky. Others can try the effect of thirty drops of medicated cinnamon in the drink, which should be sipped as hot as possible.
SEASON'S JEWELLERY.
Diamonds, Emeralds And
Jade.
All-white jewellery is to be 28 fashionable ne the all-white dress scheme, and diamonds will prove the favourite, stone of the Season. These all-white ornaments are an equally smart finish to the coloured dress, the white or black scheme, another reason for their succest with amart women.
The long lines beloved by the -modernists are exercising a pro- found influence on jewellery design. Although diamonds can now be cut any shape, and not only round as was the case a few years ago, the oblong or, baton diamonds are the most fashionable.
ו'
The newest bracelets and brooches reveal the fact that flat setting is no longer so fashionable as an up- and-down effect. In ornamente in a link design the diamonds are often set in such a way as to give a roll or curved effect, and all this unevenness gives what is called
"movement" to the latest patterns.
First Favourite.
Although diamonds are so popu- lar that they are the foundation of at least 90 per cent. of the pieces. of modern jewellery, another stone will again be prominent at import- ant functions of the Season. This is the emerald, Arst favourite among the coloured stones.
Green is a colour that is having a wonderful reign in every branch of fashion-dress and decoration,

NOVEL WEDDING BOUQUETS.
Lilies of one kind or another have taken the place of orchids in the
brides' bouquets.
A new idea is to have a small puff made of white ribbon, on which is pinned the real flowers, such as aj large bunch of stephanotie and. trailing vines of white orchids.
Gloves and shoes must match in colour, especially if the bride favours the off-white shades for her gown, and the arrangement of the vell is left to her discretion as to what is most becoining. Some- times the vellis draped simply over the head and tightly pinned, but Molyneux, Worth, and Patou prefer diadems or small caps to hold it in place..
For an American bride, who was I'very small, and had a gown built on
lines of the Moyen-Age, one famous! designer made a little cap woven with pearls, which fittted the con- tour of her head and made her look like an Italian page boy.
DAMP ALMIRAHS.
Damp in almirahs and in pianos may be combated in various ways. "The simplest is to have a low- powered electric bulb on a flex and hang it inside the almirah for un hour or two each day. Little saucers. of lime placed in a cup- board and renewed every few days will keep the air sweet and dry. Camphor blocks keep away insects and absorb the damp from the at- mosphere. The best coats fifty cents for a small block weighing an ounce but cheaper blocks at about twenty cents may be purchased at the chemists.

MORE USEFUL EXERCISE.
To Strengthen The Abdominal Muscles.
Do these exercises before taking your bath. Wear loose garments, for it is a great advantage to air the body while exercising.
The Hammock Exercise. Lie flat on your back on a rug.on the floor, with a small cushion un- der your neck. Bend both knees, keeping the soles of the feet on the floor and about twelve inches apart. Place both hands flat on the floor. Raise the hips about five or six inches, so that the weight of the body rests on the head, shoulders and feet. Vigorously swing the body from side to side, keeping the shoulders flat on the floor so as to throw. each hip upwards alternate- ly. Repeat six times each side. Lower the hips to the floor, and rest three seconds. The whole exercise takes about two minutes to com- plete. The same position with rotary movement may then be prac- tieed. Breathe evenly throughout the exercise being careful not to hold the breath.
A-Contracting & Relaxing Exercise.
Lie fat on your back, feet to- gether, hands clasped behind your hend. Draw in the abdomen, con- tract, the muscles of the legs and back, and lift, the hips two or three inches off the floor, turning the feet upwards and inwards, and at the enme time stretching the arms well behind the head. Inhale as the body is lifted; exhale as it sinks to the floor. Repeat this exerelee six times.
INSECT BITES.
Centipedes, scorpions and other harmful poochies often appear in this season. A sixth sense how- ever. generally seems to protect us from them. Have fodine always on band to apply at once in case of a bite, and consult a doctor without delay. Scrubbs ammonia is the best thing to apply to a mosquito bite or ant bite.
