Putting is more or less a natural gift in this queer game. Charles Whitcombe, our Ryder Cup captain, never seems to bother very much about it at all. On the green he takes what appears to be only a casual look at the line, steps up to the ball, and, after one look at the
hole, sends the ball on its way. He is not only one of the quickest, but also one of the best, puttere among the British professionals, and day in and day out he seldom takes three patts on any green.
