Rabelaisian incident. cerning the salvaging of property on the ill-fated steamer Limchow was reinted to

Mail n China representative on Saturday.

The s.s. Limehow, which went uground off Pochin Pagoda, în later Hainan Strait, and was salvaged by the Henry Keswick after H.M.S. Sterling had been sent to protect the salvage work- ers, was towed into harbour last Saturday at 6.30 p.m. She was docked at Kowloon Docks.

Mysterious Safe.

During the past week, work- men discovered a safe of ports, which was very large in size. Nobody claimed it, and this gave rise to suspicion and so the Police were communicated with. The authorities suspected that $7,000 in notes were concealed in the safe. So, on Saturday morn- ing, a score of coolies carried the safe off the ship, and, in the pre- ! sence of two Consuls, four Police! officers, a Customs officer, and Dock officials, it was decided to open it.

After penetrating five locks, one after the other, the final dcor was opened. But there were no dollar notes to be seen, and, to the amazement of the lookers-on, two cockroaches calmly walked out!
