Looking For The Phya Thai.
The following is true and is vouched for by a Bangkok resi dent who saw it happen. The .scene is the outside of the Orier- tal Hotel and Pop and Momma, obviously thoroughly tired out after several hours of solid sight- seeing, have been landed there by the taxi-driver instead of at the Phya Thai. The following con-
versation then ensues:-
Pop (leaning out and wearily addressing the watchman): Say, tell that guy to go to the Pyre Teer.
Momma (game to the end): Not Pyre Teer, Gus-Peer Tee!
Pop (with utter weariness); Aw, hell, tell him to go there anyway.

I asked the captain of the team about this cricket business, writes an Evening News correspondent.
"I don't think we have ever won a cricket match, but that doesn't matter," he said. "We have a good game every time we play. Our difficulty is raking up an eleven.

don via Singapore, Kowloon Wharf-N.Y.K.
The giant Cunard liner Maure-Hakusan Maru, Japanese str. 6,271 tania, with Captain Malcolm Campbell on board, grounded in the mud off the West Brambles, near Cowes, at 5.45 while on her way to Southampton from New York.
It was not until 9.15 that she refloated.
Efforts to move the vessel were unavalling, and a wireless message was sent for assistance. Four tugs responded. Two of thern pushed with their bows amidship of the liner, while the other two tried to pull her with steel hawsers.
Later a tender took off the pas- sengers, and shortly afterwards the Mauretania was got off and atcamed into port.
