CULTURE
And Her Hand-Maiden Commerce.
WEBSTER interpreis Culture "the training and
improvement and refinement of the mind, morals and taste." The greatest influence in promoting Culture has been Commerce because Commerce is ever responsive to the whims and wants of progressive humanity.
Wherever there arises the inspiration of an artist, wherever a design, a need, a field, or a fancy to con- tribute to the convenience of human kind commerce makes it accessible regardless of span of aceans, or obstacles between these who create and those who covet. In the nuuneries of France fine laces and lingeries are contrived for the trousseau of a bride in battecreek. The essences of Araby are imprisoned in the per- fumerics that Paris passes on to the boudoirs of Park Lane.

THREE GOALS TO ONE.
-
The roplay of the final match in the Sim Shield competition be- tween the Hong Kong Hockey Club and the Royal Navy, was witness- ed by a large crowd at the U.S.R.C. ground yesterday afternoon, when the Club won by three goals to one, and thus captured the coveted trophy for the second year in sue- ccasion. The previous winners have been:--1925 Club; 1926 Navy; 1927 Navy; 1928 Army; 1929 Army; 1930 Club; 1931 Club,
Wore
The ground was in excellent con- dition and play was naturally fast. From the bully-off, the Club for wards got well away, and early attacking. They forced corner, but the Navy cleared, and Sanderson, isking the ball down on the right, was robbed by Botelho, who cleared well. Exchanges favoured neither side, with the Club perhaps a little more on the aggressive. A spirited attack by the Club forwards resulted in Owen Hughes rushing in from the their first goal. right to score Divett played well for a good open- ing and was mainly responsible for this early advantage.
