I spent a very enjoyable ing's exclusive interview with

former Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Football Club and was rewarded for my pains with one or two very interesting facts relating to the birth of Rugby Football in the Colony.
He told me that the first chair man of the Club was J. H. Stewart Lockhart, now knighted, who was asked to take the Chair on Febru ary 12, 1886. The Chairman then explained the object of the meeting and proposed "that a Football Club for Rugby and Association games should be started, and that it should be called the Hong Kong Football Club." This was passed unanimously and the question of fees was then decided upon, entrance fee of $2 was charged with a subscription of f1 for the first year, and $2 for the succeeding years. These valuable minutes of the first meeting were signed by F.H.W. Watson Pike, Honorary Secretary.
