AVIATORS PUZZLED.

New York, Dec. 6. With hope almost abandoned, news of the safety of Mrs. Miller, the Australian airwoman, feared to have perished in the sea between Cuba and Florida, was flashed from Nassau, capital of the Bahamas, south-east of Florida, on Monday night.

"I'm safe; notify friends; love.--- Jessie," was the message sent by Mrs. Miller to her mother, Mrs. Beveridge, in New York.

Blown more than 100 miles out of her course by a heavy gale from the west, her compass out of order, and her petrol exhausted, Mrs. Miller made a forced landing on a barren Islund in the Bahamas group, six and a half hours after having left Havana for Miami on Friday,

Describing her adventure in an interview at Nassau to-day, Mrs. Miller, who arrived there on board a fishing boat, said her tiny plane, the Bullet, was forced down near Kemps Bay, in the Andros Islands, 120 miles east of Florida, at 9.30 p.m. on Friday. She had been six and a half hours in the air.

Soon after leaving Havana she run into a severe gale blowing from the Gulf of Mexico, and was forced off her course. To make her plight worse her compass failed, and the had no idea where she was.

Down in Clump of Bushes. "I flew blind for several hours" she said, "and then I saw land and turned my plane with the wind. There was not enough gas to make a safe landing, so I zoomed down at a great speed. The machine rolled into a clump of bushes. I was not even hurt, but I certainly did not know where I was. I called loudly for help, but none came. I looked for signs of habitation, but lound none."

After having wandered for half an hour, Mrs. Miller said, she dis. covered a path, and then walked 16 miles, eventually reaching the wire- less station and settlement at: Kemps Bay, where she was given food and shelter.

The yellow trunk in which the body was pressed measured thirty by eighteen inches. The victim is aged about twenty-five. Rigor mortis had not set in when the body was discovered. There is no trace of the head. There are no clues sa yet to the mystery.
