A gallant rescue by * ship's officer of the Jardine steamier Yueneang is reported from Amoy, when Mr. R. T. Salmon, third officer, dived overboard into heavy sea to the assistance of A Chinese member of the crew of distressed fishing junk. Unfor- tunately the man could not be re- vived, and was later buried at sen.

The master of the Yuensang. Captain J. W. Pettigrew, reports waterlogged junk last sighting a Tuesday, morning, whereupon he at once took h's ship to the rescue. Six of the crew of seven were taken aboard the Yuensang, but the other miun drifted away in a lifebuoy, with his head under water.
