MARKETS QUIET.
The report of the Irish Linen Society on the linen market for the | fortnight ended
9. December states:-
Flax.
Irish. The markets have, not been as well supplied during the pust fortnight ag ia usual at this year, owing to period of the growers not being satisfied with
low prices. the present
The quality of the flax for this season is disappointing, Demand
was fair for all classes of fibre withou! any change in value. Courtrai. There is
very little change to report. French spinners are again showing more Interest in low priced flaxes, and, as a result,
material, and there is little doubt that with the return of general
the
filling-ine world confidence orders, now being placed, would be translated into volume quantities. Manufacturers have experienced a much steadier yarn market behind them, which is further reinforced by the news of considerable sala of Soviet flax.
Merchants.
At this time of year, under normal conditions, trade is usually quiet. The season is over, and the new season has hardly commenced. The dullness is accentuated by world conditions. There has been some business done in housekeep- ing goods, and handkerchief cloths are moving reasonably. A few forward orders have already been booked for handkerchiefs for next
