It is when the hero is about to have his life enuffed out on the gibbet that Katherine takes a part in the proceedings and saves the day in a tremendously powerful dramatic climax.

"Our Blushing Brides" is change from the usual back-stage life plot, and it takes us into Jar- dine's Department Store, where Joan is a model, Anita in the per fumes, and Dorothy is behind the counter with blankets. Joan is of a cautious disposition about men, whilst her two room-mates crave

Joan is in love with Robert, but is careful, Anita falls for Ray-

mond, who furnishes her with a benutiful apartment later to marry her. Dorothy marries John in a fit of drunkenness, and her "husband" inter turns out to be the leader off a crook gang. He is jailed and Dorothy returns to live happily with her mother. Whilst all this is happening Joan has taken an apartment in a poor district "to cut) down expenses." She visita Anita, und is greatly struck with the lat- ter's lovely house. However, over the radio it is revealed that Ray- mond is to marry a society debu tante and Anita, who is greatly

peeved, takes poison and dies. The rest of the story can be left to the

reader's mind.

The settings throughout are moat modern, whilst the talking is excep- tionally clear.

In an interesting Hearst news- reel, one hears the Prince of Wales speaking at the opening of a $1,000,000 bridge at Yarmouth, The

coronation of Adis Abba is featured in the reel, which, also shows the wedding of King Boris and an Italian Princess.

"THE VAGABOND KING:"

When a stage production is ren- dered upon the audible screen it is natural to draw a comparison. But in the case of "The Vagabond King" which opened in the Central{ Theatre on Saturday, a comparison is a paltry means of expressing the glamorous wonderment of this mar- vellous screen version.

In fact, the film adaptation is so far superior in thrills and sheer beauty that there is no comparing it with the original, beautiful as the original W3B.

Dennis King, as the master of the sword, the leader of the vaga- bonds, the redeemer of Paris and the captor of a princess's heart, leaps into the very front rank of

|

sets, breath-taking action, roman- tic glamour and musical richness both in the singing and orchestral departments, that a poor critic, abetted merely by the meagreness of the printed word, cannot even begin to tell you how "swell" it all

is.

All he can tell you is, go and sea it-three or four times.
