Some of the things he mentioned were even then looked upon as travellers' tales, listened to by the newcomers, like myself, with much interest, as the experi- | ences of a kind never likely to be met with by our generation. Inquiries show that there, la no truth in the report that R100 will be flown to India,

This airship is driven by petrol engines and not by heavy-oil burn- ing engines, which were fifted to the R101 specially for tropical flying.

The R100 is now inside its-nhed at Cardington, undergoing minor repairs after the Atlantic flight.

There was a talk of enlarging the envelope, but no new work has been started.

It is expected that the airship policy will be announced after the finding of the Commission of In- quiry into the loss of the R101.

"There were no rallways in these days, or motor-cars to get one out into the wilds quickly and com- fortably; but I doubt if present day facilities gave as much enjoyment of such excursions as we who were fortunate enough to get away for a week or two, or more frequently, a day or two, got out of our ex- periences. A WEEK'S PAPERS IN: ONE.

Discontent amongst prisoners in Victoria culminated in a general strike during the week, the convicts refusing duty, and having eventually to be confined to their quarters. An official statement attributes the affair to a large extent to "outside influence," but claims that the situs- tion is well in hand. The treatment and feeding of prisoners was the subject of some pointed questions at a meeting of the Finance Committee. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL gives all details of the Incident.

The question of whether or not statements made to the Police are entirely voluntary came up again in the trial of a 16-year old village boy for the murder of a fellow-cook. The Chief Justice, after hearing the Crown's evidence, was of opinion that the prisoner had in some manner been influenced, and would not allow the statements to be put in as evidence. The full report of the case, which ended in the boy's acquittal, appears in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

After a long-drawn-out hearing a Police interpreter was sentenced to two months' imprisonment at the Magistracy for accepting bribes from a hawker. Another protracted case came to an end at the Assizes, where the late manager of a Chinese firm entered a successful plea of autrefois acquit when charged with attering a forged document. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL contains a full report of both
