A WEEK'S PAPERS IN ONE.
New anti-piracy regulations, issued by the Hong Kong Government, laying the onus upon the master of a vessel that all Ordinances in this connection shall be fully observed, have 'caused considerable adverse comment amongst the spokesmen and the personnel of the sea-faring community. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL reproduces the text of the regulations, together with sapient editorial comment.
The fall of the Hong Kong dollar to the lowest figure on record, 1/2 9/16, is also recorded in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
A daring robbery in broad daylight, whereby the In- truders escaped with over $1,000 in loot, occurred during the week. The men, who posed as policemen, held up the manager of a Chinese boarding house, bound and gagged him, and then robbed the safe. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL carries a full report.
An interesting case in connection with the respon- sibility of a carrier of shippers' cargo is also reported in full in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
The feared loss of a ship on the Pratas Shoals, variously described as German, Norwegian, and Swedish, and the dramatic rush of Naval and merchant ships to the rescue, is also a feature report of the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL,
In spite of optimistic proclamations from Nanking, the cloud of strife still hovers over China. Latest information from Yunnan is that insurgents there, headed by the Iron- aide leader, Chang Fat-ful, are determined to fight to the death. In the North Feng Yu-hsiang and Yen Hsi-shan are still machinating, in spite of repeated statements that they were to go abroad. All relevant dispatches are reproduced in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
