Pig's Place of Honour in

the Soviet.

Under the watchword of "Face to the 'Swine" the Bolshevist leaders at Moscow, have addressed an appeal to all "Communist organisations, trade unions, co-operatives, and Fublic societies" admonishing them not to forget the pigs.

The appeal complains that al though the pigs which were ordered early in the year, for the principal districts of the Soviet Union have not been delivered, much leeway can be made up if Soviet citizens, will only work with a will and bear in mind what was said on the subject at the great Communist Congress by the chief leaders of the party.

In n published appeal Comrade Kiroff, one of the new members of the Politbureau (Political Bureau) deplored the fact that people are "inclined to make merry when we mention pigs." They do not (he anys) realise what a reservoir of meat is being wasted by ignoring the pig campaign which was recent- ly prescribed. The masses must be made to understand that the "meat front" can be rescued "only by pigs,

'The appeal points out that the party has worked out plans for the breeding of pigs not only in the country, but also inside the big towns, when pigs may serve us auxiliary scavengers, devouring the waste of hospitals, cating-houses, barracks, prisons and private houses. Stles have been opened already "in the very centre of Leningrad" under the management of the Military- Medical Academy, with a basis of pure English pedigree sows, which at the present moment are "worth, their weight in gold."
