POLICE AT PLAY.
AQUATIC SPORTS AT V.R.C.
BIG LIST OF ENTRIES.
The ninth annual aquatic sports. of the Police and Prisons Depart- ment, held at the V.R.C. 'awim. ming bath on Saturday afternoon, was graced by the presence of His Excellency the Governor (Sir.} William Peel, K.B.E., G.M.G.) who was attended by his A.D.C., Capt. Coltman.
There was a very large crowd ef spectators and HE.'s party in- chided the Hon. Mr. E. D. C. Wolfe, C.M.C., Inspector General of Police, His Honour Mr. Justice John R. Wood, the Hon. Mr. C. G. Alabaster, O.B.E., K.C., and Mrs. King, the wife of Mr. T. H. King, director of Criminal Intelligence. The sport throughout the pro- gramme was very encouraging, the pillow fight and balloon race in particular providing lots of
fun.
IG.P.'s Witty Speech.
At the conclusion of the sports, the Hon. Mr. Wolfe meditated upon the possibility of getting a swimming bath for the two de- partments, but, of course he had rot tackled His Excellency, on the subject, because the Retrenchment Committee was sitting! (Laugh- ter.)
Music was supplied by a jazz band headed by Mr. M. Souss, and tea was also served. Dancing was later indulged in at the close of the distribution of prizes.

Championships Men's
to-day. | Frank Shields offered a plucky re- sistance to a mere experienced player than himself, and it was not until the 30th game in the fourth set that he bowed the knee,
The first set was a very close one, each player, trying to break through his opponent's service. After sixteen games the players terms, but Doog were on even broke through Shield's service and went out at 10-8.
Shields carried all before him in The third set went to Doeg at 6-4, the second set, winning by 6-1. and the fourth at 16-14 after a terrific struggle. A total up of the games played, gives Doeg a lend of only one, Shields claiming 32 of the 65 games played.

WOMEN'S OLYMPIAD,
Berlin, Yesterday. London avenged Great Britain's defeat at Prague by defeating the Berlin girls in the Women's Athle- tic Olympiad. The narrowest pos- alble margin gave the Britons vic- tory by 47 to 46 points.
The Londoners won all the track oventa,, except the hundred metres. Four Japanese participated in the meeting, but were not included in the competition.-Reuter
