BRITISH GIRL SHOT WHILE IN FLANCE'S SIDECAR.

Miss Eileen Smith, a 19-year-old girl, was murdered while driving with her finance in his motor-cycle combination in Cairo. She was the daughter of an official in the firm Egyptian Marketa, Ltd., whose headquarters are in London.

The murder took place on a lonely · road on the outskirts of Calro at 10 - o'clock in the evening. The couple, who were on their way home, had pulled up for a moment when two natives suddenly appeared and fred. at point-blank range.

Mr. Ronald Lilley, the girl's; fiance, who le a British constable attached to the Royal Guard, ducked and avoided injury, but Miss Smith; scated in the sidecar, received the contenta of one barrel of a sporting gun in her left side and died at once..

The murderers immediately turn- ed tall and, so far, have not been caught. The Public: Security De. partment has announced that the motive for the outrage was probably robbery, but, according to a later rumour, which has not been confirm- ed it was the outcome of a dispute between Mr. Lilley and some Egyptians in 'a'cafe..

Miss Smith, who was born in Egypt, lived with her parents at Hellopolis,

The evils of the so-called "mosquito Press in the .Colony were laid bare in a case in which a young Chinese nurse was given judgment for $1,000 in an action for libel against one of these publications. A warrant for the arrest of the compradore of the Equitable Eastern Banking Corporation, who absconded on August 2, was issued during the week.
