TEST MATCH.

Hobbs and Sutcliffe Again.

WALL DEADLY,

Manchester, Saturday.

A crowd of 25,000 gathered at Old Trafford to see Australia carry on their innings, which overnight had been left at 275 for 7 wickets. The wicket was in good condition, but the weather, in accordance with the Manches- ter tradition, wes overcast.

Fairfax and Grimmett, who were both not out with 21 to their credit, resumed the tourists'

innings. They continued their partnership, and actually added 87 runs in two hours, just at the time when the English bowling was getting definitely on top.

Grimmett in Form! "Clarric" Grimmett's score Is his highest to date in Test cricket, He was caught at short leg by Sutcliffe, the eighth wicket thus falling at 330. Fairfax batted for three hours and ten minutes for his 49, offering a most stubborn defence. He hit only three fours, and was the ninth man out at 338. Hornibrook was soon out, caught at slip by Duleepsinḥji.

England began hatting at 12.55, Hobbs and Sutcliffe opening. At lunch time the famous pair were undefeated, the score being 29 for no wickets.
