BOBBY JONES AND HIS DRIVING.
What is the Jones?
THE BRACED RIGHT KNEE.
secret of Bobby
The ascendancy he gains over any adversary he meets is even more remarkable than his actual golf technique. He has been called a master of the short game. He is, but my own experience is that his mastery begins with the long game, Bobby Jones has never been called a big hitter, but he does drive the 'ball a long way.
And he drives it consistently down the middle. A spectator who took the trouble to follow Bobby Jones in order to be able to say that he had seen him miss a tee shot would be very much like the man who followed a circus in the hope; that one day he would see the lion, eat the lion-tamer. The champion does sometimes mlas a tee shot, but, he misses them much less frequently | than most amateurs, even of chum- plonship class.

Brace the Right Knee. That, in fact, was a characteris- tie of the swing of Bobby Jones that impressed me the manner in which the right knee is braced back when the club is at the top of the awing.
The Ascendancy of Bobble. When a player is sinking, long putts, and finding the pin with a mashie, his adversary is not likely to become unduly disturbed. A few The knee seems almost locked.

That, at least, is my view of one reason for the ascendancy of Bobby Jones.
I tried to analyse the swing, to see how the champion secures dis- 'tance without loss of mechanical accuracy. I noticed what I have noticed in many other long-hitters -the straight left arm.
These are all faults of the golfer striving for distance.
Obsessed with the idea of clout- ing the ball, the player dips his left shoulder, sways back, rises to the toe of the left foot, and then thumps down at the ball.

TENNIS BALLS.
What Keeps an Industry
Bouncing."
to
Tennis is probably one of the most popular games in the world, From China to Cubs, America to New Zealand, tennis reigns supreme as the truly international sport. Millons play, and inevitably a sub- stantial Industry has arisen aupply these millions with equip- ment. British manufacturers have created a reputation for their produce that extends to every tennis playing country in the world and players of every nationality have come to regard the word "British" as a guarantee of a certain definite standard of quality.
At Fort Dunlop in Britain a won- derful organisation exists for the supply of tennis balls to the world. A never ending stream of themi comes bouncing put of the testing machines to every corner of the earth. The experts in the labora tories are continually testing and experimenting in order to achieve a still higher standard of efficiency and recently a new method of manu- facture was adopted, ensuring that the balls keep hard for very much longer periods than was hitherto possible.

manufacture, this method carries along with it the additional advan- tage in that the gas inside the con tainer is less subject to external atmospheric conditions than if it were air-filled.
This radical departure from the hitherto recognised methods of manufacture, has, without doubt. esablished the Dunlop tennis ball all over the world. Players have been quick to recognise its uniformity in weight and bound and Its unerring regularity la flight - Ball Testing.
The Dunlop Company has estab- lished at Port Dunlop a magnificent research laboratory and here every scientific detail, of golf and tenis ball manufacture is dealt with in the light of modern science.
The most ingenious and accurate machine for every kind of test have hera first seen the light of day. For example there is a machine which tests racket frames, gut and tennis balls simultaneously. Driven by an electric motor this machine whirla round a tennis racket, fixed to a wheel, at a great speed, balla being fed from above so that the racket drives them on to a bord, when they rebound back to the machine to be hit once more. **
It is the result of auch research, skill and gound workmanship that has created Britain's 'world wide reputation for sports goods that are second to none. We have no com- petitors, we need fear no compari- sons of quality. But rivals are waiting, ever ready to push forward goods which have a superficial glas of quality, but which will not stand the test of time and wear.
