This anti-British fury is well de- monstrated by the experience of Lenn Goldfields, Ltd. At the time of the Soviet revolution the whole of the company's property was con- fiscated, but when the Bolsheviks found they could not carry on with- out foreign assistance a new con- ression was granted by the Soviet, the conditions of the agreement be ing that any question in dispute should be referred to a court of arbitration.
This was in 1925. Ever since that date the company has been spending money on the concession, and the company was looking for- ward to a profit this year which could be used for the benefit of the British and other shareholders.
Then the blow fell. The Bolsheviks apparently conceived the scheme of confiscating the com- pany's property and taking all the profts, or as much
as they could secur under their own
ment for themselves.

As no arrangement could be arrived at the company put into operation the arbitration clause of the agreement, nominating as their arbitrator Sir Leslic Scott, K.C. The arbitration was finally fixed for May 9, but the Soviet refused to attend the court. As it is

A frank admission to a Senior Sanitary Inspector that certain Kowloon Tong residents had allowed mosquitoes to breed in flower pots, for the stated purpose "of feeding goldfish" was mentioned in a case before the Kowloon Magistrate. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL carries a com- plete report of the case, which is of particular importance in view of the movement for an intensive anti-malarial campaign in the Colony,
There is an unhappy recrudescence of murderous attacks in the Colony, Last week, an amah returning from market in Wanchai made the terrible' discovery that an old woman living in the same house had been brutally murdered in her absence. Another case which excited great interest, particularly amongst Chinese friends and residents in the neighbourhood, was the trial of a Chinese charged with the murder of five of his compatriots in a bank in the Western district in May. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL reports both cases in full.
During the week, a young Chinese was found not guilty on two charges of uttering and obtaining money on a forged $100 bill. The case, in which the evidence was very con- flicting, occupled the attention of a jury for two days, and is comprehensively recorded in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
The reception by the French Consul (M. M. G. Dufaure de la Prade) on the occasion of July 14, the French National holiday, is also the subject of appropriate notice in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
Sport of all sorts, as usual, is ably dealt with by the 'OVERLAND CHINA MAIL staff, special accounts of and com-
