In the next over Duleepsinhji was caught at the wicket after a fighting innings lasting an hour and a half, 147-5-48. Chap. man stepped into the breach at A. P. F. Chapman, c Oldfield, this critical juncture, and with b Fairfax Allen, who had failed as a bowl. GO. Allen, L.b.w., b Grimmett 57 Tate, e Ponsford, b Grimmett 10 41, made a great effort against R. W. V. Robins, not out 11 tremendous odus. Chapman J, C. White, run out straight drove Grimmett for a six to send up his fifty, Allen was scoring at a steady pace, and at the luncheon interval the two were undefeated with 52 dad 54 ||- to their credit and 262 runs on Wall the board.

In the second over after lunch Allen stepped in front of a straight one from Grimmett after 115 rung had been added in 95 nunutes. His innings lasted two hours, and with leg shots he scor- ed eight boundaries and was an invaluable factor in the saving of the innings defeat.
