BRITISH HOPES" UNFORTUNATELY BREAK DOWN.
AMERICA ONCE AGAIN!
R. T. (Bobby) Jones, of Atlanta, Georgia, won the British Open Golf Championship at Hoylake yesterday with a score of 291. He thus realises the expressed ambition of his life, in that he has won both the British Amateur and Open titles in the same season. Jones. had won the Open twice before, in 1926 and 1927, hút had failed in the Amateur competition until this season.
It is worthy of note that no British golfer has won the Open title since Arthur Havers won in 1928. Since George Duncan won in 1920 the title has gone to America nine times in all. Jock Hutchison, a.
