YORKSHIRE DECLARE LATE.

TYLDESLEYS BENEFIT MATCH

MANCHESTER.

CHAMPIONS' VICTORY.

AT

County cricket was overshadowed in the cricketing world by the Test Match at Nottingham, but there were some interesting matches down for decision.

Surray, who had taken first innings' points from the champions, were entertained by Lancashire on the occasion of R. Tyldesley's beneft match. They once again proved their batting power and left the north with first innings' points. The champions took full points against Glamorgan, and Gloucestershire unexpectedly failed before Hampshire. In the lower half of the championship table, Essex, de- feated Northants by 114 runs.

Seven centuries were registered in a programme which yielded a paucity of runs. Freeman selected the Derbyshire match for the occasion of his taking his 100th wicket of the acason, and he return- ed the best bowling figures. Boyes took 6 Gloucester wickets for 18 runs out of a total of 188.

Lancashire still remain at the head of the table. but Notts have crept up, and have one match in hand, Kent are clinging on to the leaders and earn their points with seven outright victories, and Surrey advanced as a result of yesterday's match.

THE CRICKETING WONDER.

Bradman's Career at a Stand.

Although he has been play- ing frat-class cricket for little more than three years, Brad- man has already piled up a wonderful collection of re- cords, recalling the feats of Ponsford in his palmiest daya. On his first appearance in Eng- land he scored a double, cer-" tury against Worcestershire, a feat which has only been, per- formed twice, namely by H. H. Massle against Oxford Univer- sity in 1882, and W. M. Wood- full against Essex in 1926.

Col. Philip Trevor, in the Daily Telegraph writes:

"Bradman'a immediate suc- cess ia especially welcome. He seems to have practically all the scoring strokes at his command and is most attrac tive to watch."

The Daily Express says: "Bradman's batting is superb and all the laudatory things said about him by his country-' men have been substantiated.

Australian spectators used to complain of too much Hobbs, but before the Summer. is over we may hear cries of "Too much Bradman." He is undoubtedly the greatest young cricketer seen at least for a generation."

Championship Won by Davis.

- For the third year in succession Davia won the professional billiards championship, defeating Newman in the final round by 801 points at Thurston's Hall, London. After Newman had gone ahead in the early stages of the game, Davis showed good form, and during the early part of the second week's play he held what seemed a winning lead. A splendid recovery by Nowman, however, left the result open when play Waa begun, and when the final stage was entered upon he was only 616 behind the champion, having scored 1,093 pofits In the | afternoon to Davis's 843. Any chance Newman may have had prac tically disappeared in the Arst forty minutes' play in the evening, when Davis, with runs of 362, including 84 close cannons, and 101, made in successive innings, acored 578, whereas New man's corresponding scores totall- ed only 39.Newman compiled

Beats Japanese in Championship Bout. ·

Manila, June 7.

Joe Sacramento, once the pride and joy of the local Astic hord, has stepped out and won himself a title. In fact, two titles.

Joe won his titles by punching one, Mr. Toyo Sato, Japanese cham- nion, silly In something like two rounds. The fight took place at Osaka, Japan, during the course of Sacramento's trip through that

country and according to reports it attracted a crowd of some 10,000 fight fans.

Before Sato met Joe, he was rated as the one big time boxer in Japan and he was favoured to beat Sacra- mento by a wide margin. The odds were five to two in his favour when the pair entered the ring.
