A WEEK'S REMAND,

With an ugly scar on his throat, and looking pale and weak, Li Man- pun, the man who was alleged to have run amok early on the morning of May 24, in the premises of the Hung Tak Bank, 165, Queen's Rond Central, made an appearance before Mr. R. E. Lindsell at the Central Magistracy this morning.

Li was alleged to have armed him. self with two choppers, with which he crept to the beds of six men and youths sleeping on the premises, and slashed their throats. Afterward

he cut his own throat.

Four of the victims died instantly, one succumbed to bis injury in the Government Civil Hospital, whilst the sixth recovered and was dis charged from hospital on June 3.

Li was charged with the murder of only one of the five victims, Fung Sik-cheuk, the 19-year-old son of the Managing Director of the Bank, and in reply to the charge he said simply: "I do not know.".

Mr. T. Murphy, A.S.P., applied for a week's formal remand in custody, as Li has already been dia- charged from hospital as cured.

Washington, Yesterday. The export trade of the United States of America has suffered a severe decline, according to the 're- turns of the Department of Com- merce. In April the export trade declined by G$100,000,000 as.com- pared with April, 1929.-Reuter's i American Service.
