SYSTEM EXAMINED. Comparison Betwein Various Type of Schools, There are several kinds
schools, viz.
1. Government Schools- ABritish Schools for British Children: There are five such Schools, viz.: Central British, Kowloon Junior, Peak, Victoria British and Quarry Bay. For these Schools there were in 1927, thirty-four certificated Teachers and the number of scholars on the roll was 486. (Average Atten- dance--342). The average coati per head per annum to Govern- ment at the Central British School, which is a Secondary School (Eco) later. in my "Return of Secondary Schools") is, after deducting food, $502 per annum per Scholar. This cost does not, so far as I know In- clude the cost of passages, pen- slona, furloughs and repairs to buildings.
Economy might be made by us ing, more Pupil Teachers or Teach- ers in Training at all the abote Schools and by reducing starting salaries.
