Mr. Gandhi Replies to Criticism.
Bombay, April 17. "As in the matter of Hindu- Muslim unity, there has been mis- representation în the matter of 'untouchability.' It has been stated that I am sacrificing the Interests of the 'untouchables' for the sake of Saraj. I know lakhs of 'untouchables' won't believe any auch thing of me. Let the 'untouchable' brethren' not: be lured from the common goal. because it was the presence of Englishmen that brought to the funtouchables a sense of their rights. "We could be profited by this excellence of theira without the infiction of their rule,
My indictment is not against the English as men. It is against Englishmen as the ruling caste, As men they are as good as we In some respects they are better, in some others they may be worse. But ad rulere they are highly un- desirable. As rulers they can đó and have done no good to any of 2. They pandered: to accentuate our vices.
