Shortly after 9 'clock, His Ex- cellency left the Residency at Kangar with the British Adviser (Mr. A. Allen) and proceeded to Arau, where he was received by His Highness the Raja and the members of the State Council. A guard of honour was furnished by the local police and boy scouts lined the path between an arch of welcome and the Balai Peng- adapan. Centennial Conference in America.

Salt Lake City, April 5. Thousands of members of the Mormon Church are arriving here to-day for the centennial confer- ence at which 50,000 of the "Latter Day Saints are expected to be in attendance from outside points.

MR. BOTTOMLEY'S INSOLVENCY.

OFFICIAL RECEIVER AND “A NEW REASON."

PREVIOUS FAILURES.

Mr. Horatio Bottomley attended for his public examination before Mr. Registrar Warmington, at the London Bankruptcy Court. He was described as a journalist, of Groa- venor-gardens, S.W.

His amended statement of affairs showed liabilities of £116,769, of which £115,899 were unsecured, and estimated assets of £1,000, apart from two book debts of the face value of £11,500, the realisable value of which was very uncertain.

Of the abilities £109,984 were, returned as due to the trustee in the 1922 bankruptcy proceedings, being in respect of the unsatisfied bulance of debts according to the proof of debt.

Questioned by Mr. Waterer, the Deputy Official Receiver. Mr. Bot- tomley said that he had..failed on three previous occasions. but on the first two the receiving orders were rescinded, and the adjudien- tions were annulled, the debts: being paid full. Regarding the third occasion, he said that he had been

made for its compulsory winding up. At that date the company's books showed that it owed him about £15,000,

On certain figures being put to him by the Deputy Omeial Receiv er, Mr. Bottomley said that if these were correct they would seem to show that he had had out of the company about as much as he had put into it, and that all that he had lost was £1,250. "But," he added, "£1,250 in these days is something to me."

He did not say, however, that the figures put by the Deputy Official Receiver were correct. He was not responsible for them and had not; checked them. He (Mr. Bottomley) would have to investigate the mat- ter. He had since remembered samething and that he had paid considerable sums back to people who said that they had suffered

Journalistic Earnings.

Mr. Bottomley said that his examination on that occasion was not technically concluded, and he was not in a position to apply for his discharge.
