JOLLY THINGS TO MAKE.
Toy cannon is very simply made and in use looks very realistic. You need a very small tin, a piece of word, short length of metal tubing and a Bat-heudded tack.
First, drill a hole in the wood, which is, to provide a mounting, Through this drive the tack, so that when fixed to a hasc (or deck) the gun may be turned in any direc tion. Now remove the tin lid and
attach the fin to the wood in such a way that the lid may be replaced and removed when desired.
In the centre of the lid punch a hole with a nail large enough to barely fit the tubing very, tightly.

A Coincidence.
James, can you give me an exam- plę of a coincidence?" asked the teacher.
"Well," aid James, after some consideration, "my father and mother were married on the same day."
"You don't mean it!" replies your friend,~~~“Why?”
TO PRESERVE LEAVES.
Take either brown or green leaves and lay them between sheets of bloiting-paper underneath some heavy books for two or three days until they are thoroughly dried. Then arrange them on one side of the page in an exercise book and put tiny straps of sticking paper over the corners to keep them in place.
When they are all nicely arrang- ed, write underneath each specimen where you found it and, if you can find out exactly, from what plant or troe it comes.
Then, if you want to make the pages particularly smart, get out your paint-box and colour the back- ground some pretty shade, say,-pale. green or blue.
You will be surprised to see how pretty the leaves will look.
What Baby Wanted.
The busy mother had sent the baby into the garden in charge of his brother, and she was soon dis- turbed by loud cries. "Jim," she called, "what is the matter with baby?"
"I don't know what to do with him, mother." ràplied Jim. "He's dug a hole and wants to bring it into the house,”

AN ARCHED PROBLEM.
---
A prominent actress was giving a dinner. Unfortunately, the guesta arrived before she was ready to re- ceive them...
The stage star's small daughter, however, apologised prettily. "Mummy will be down in a minute," she said. "She's just writing on her eyebrows now."
Very Truc.
Those general knowledge lessons" are always a nuisance to teacher and taught alike.
"Now, can any of you tell me," asked one school-mistress, "what is meant by the lap of luxury?”
"Pease, miss," cried little Mary, eagerly, "I can."
"Good, Mary," said the teacher approvingly, “What is it?"
"Please, misa, when the cat steals into the larder and licks the cream off the milk."

Teacher: Can anybody here ex- plain nonsense?

you tell him.
"What, with those old bits?" he will ask.
"Just you watch,” you say, And you then take away one piece of wire. "There you are,' you add; "I have made à wire less!""
And he will look so sorry, peur chap.
