The Secretary for India was ques tioned regarding the effects of the campaign conducted by Gandhi in India. Capt. Wedgwood Benn re- plied, "As the House Is aware, Gandhi's march has caused a certain amount of excitement in the Bombay Presidency, particularly in diatricia actually traversed, and a small pro- portion of villago headmen have re- signed, temporarily, at any rate. Elsewhere little general interest appears to have been aroused. The main project of Gandhi's campaign is to defeat the Government by breaking the salt laws and has only just been initiated, and it is too early to form any opinion as to the | affects.

The Shansi troops: three divisions under Sun Cho, Feng Peng-tao and Yang Yiu-feng are advancing to- wards Taiming, Chinchow and Tsin- ing: three divisions under Fu Tso- yi, Li Sang-ta and Wang Ching-kuo towards the Tsin-pu line and Tsinan; and three divisions under Yang Hsueh-au, Chang Hul-chas and Li Fu-ying as general reservo stationed along Pelho and Tientsin to remain on the defensive, to guard against a possible attack on the rear by the North-Eastern troops.
