London, Yesterday.

M. Briand visited Mr. Hender- son él morning, and it is under- stood expounded the French Idea of a mutual guarantee påct for the Mediterranean, as most likely to lead to a reduction of the French and other navies.

It is authoritatively stated that the attitude both of the British; and the Americans is unchanged and the present task of the con- ference is to find a formula which will represent a middle course, between a purely consultative pact and a pact containing military guarantees.

The discussions now proceeding are on the basis of arranging a pact within

a pact; one purely cerned with the Mediterranean signed by Britain, France and Itlay, the other larger and more general one to which the five Powers will subscribe.-Reuter.
