Satisfactory Results The Chairman sald:-

The working during the past year shows very satisfactory results and ia comparatively better than the previous year. The large increase in our exchange business favoured by our countrymen residing in the gold currency countries is the chief factor attributable to these happy results.

The net profit, Including $45,- 992.26 brought forward from last account, and after paying all charges and writing off bad and doubtful debts, leaves the sum of $1,396,395.70 for appropriation and with this it is proposed to:

Transter to the Reserve Fund $150,000.00.

Transfer to the Reserve for Bad and Doubtful Debts $500,000.00:

Write off Furniture, Fixture and Vaults Account $1,941.16.

Write ON Stationery Account $11,714.33.

Write of Branches Organisation Account $10,900.50.

Pay Dividend at $2.40 per share $519,936.00.

Pay bonus to Directors and Staff $86,080.50.

Corry forward the balance to next account $100,843.22. Total $1,396,- 305.70.

I take this opportunity to express! our high appreciation of the ser- vices rendered by the Bank staff here and abroad.

As there la nothing more for any special comment required from me I now propose that the report and statement of accounts for the year' ended December 31, 1929, be adopt-

·ed and when this has been seconded I will be pleased to answer with my best ability any question that share- holders may ask.

Mr. J. M. Wang seconded the pro- posal, and the report and statement of accounts were unaimously adopt-

ed.

Mr. Ng Iu-ting proposed and Mr. Li Sing-kul seconded, that Messrs. Percy Smith, Sath and Fleming be re-elected auditors for the ensuing

year.

of $10,000 per annum for the years 1929, 1930 and 1931.

Eitel's History of Hong Kong Towards the end of the year the Committee considered the feasibility of of promoting republication Eitel's "History of Hong Kong," which gives an historical survey of the early relations between Great Britain and China, followed by a detailed narrative of the events which led up to the cession of Hong Kong and an intimate account of the Colony's affairs during the first -forty years of its existence. As the original publishers, who were ap proached in the matter, considered that the demand would not justify their undertaking the publication on their own account, a circular, was issued to test the demand for the

book amongst members, with a view to ra-issue for the account of the Chamber at a suggested retail price of $10 per copy. Nearly 100 copies were spoken for, but the Committee decided that republication would not be justified until evidence of 200 probable sales was forthcoming.

Membership

During the year there were four

withdrawals from membership of the Chamber, and the following accessions:-.
