Alleged Attempt to Ram Yawl

INQUIRY AFOOT

An extraordinary.case which is alleg- ed to be a deliberate attempt on the part of a poaching selne net trawler to rani a meter yawi in the prohibited waters of the Moray Firth has been reported to and is being investigated by the Nairnshire police.

While George Ralph, a Nairn fisher- man, was putting down his lines lato at night off what is known as the Old Bar, some sovun miles east of Nairn; he observed a vessel behaving in a "rather suspicious" manner. As, however, it was then too dark for him to see what was actually taking place, but having his suspicions of trawling aroused, he decided to wait until daylight came. When, just as he began to lift his lines, he saw the vessel start to shoot its trawl net, his suspicions were confirm- GULF,, and he set his course towards the
