The Navy's second string have been most unlucky in their Shield career this season. At the third time of asking the "Sets" gained the verdict by the odd goal after u pennity had been missed by the Navy in the closing minutes of the game. Hope was revived when the Counell ordered the game to be re played through the "Sets" playing an illegal player, but when the day arrived the Senior Service were prevented from fielding their usual

Senior Shield
South China, last season's Senior Shield holders, suceceded in defeat ing the R.A. in spite of the "Gun- ners" opening the scoring by finding the net twice. Fletcher once more was in the forefront with his good work in goal, and he alone was res ponsible for South China gaining just the bare verdict.

Kowloon, true to their record in the Senior Shield, became semi- finalists by registering the only goal scored against the Police. Kowloon's success is enhanced by the fact that Clarke played a wonderful game | Chesterfield .27 13 4 10 40 41 30 between the posts, and it must have been very disheartening for him when he fell in the act of saving for McKelvie to find his untenanted citadel. Contrary to expectations the Police put up a very keen strug- gle and brought out Kowloon's best: In fact, the match can be summed up as one of many delightful move- ments and well above the average for such encounters.
Club v. Navy
In the Club versus the Navy tie nothing would go right for the Navy. In the first place the Club would not have been successful with their first goal if Bogle had watched the flight of the ball and punched clear instead of making Bell a gift, and, secondly, the Club's second goal was all against the run of the play.

Being two behind looked bad for the Senior Service, but hope was revived when Tilley sent in a beautiful top. drive to register a good goal.
After the resumption the home side's goal bore a charmed life until, by the ald of a spot kick, McGregor squared the scores to force extra time being played. Potta soon after the resumption of the second half of the extra time scored with a good
shot to give his side a well deserved victory.
Penalty Kick Law Before leaving this match I think It is opportune to comment on McGregor's apot kick, which has led to a good deal of argument. Rodgera cannot be aware of this season's alteration in the law governing the penalty kick. For the benefit of goalkeepers generally, I may point out that the law now reads:
"The goalkeeper may stand on any part of his goal-line but have ing taken his atand, he must not move his feet until the kick is taken. If he does and the penalty kick fails the referee must order It to be re-taken."
Rodgora last Saturday indulged in the very antics that brought about this change in the law, jumping about in his goal to put the kicker off his shot. The referee, (Continued on› Page 10,)

T. Honda, a former champion, had little difficulty in disposing of Y. Sajikt in the H.K.C.C. Open Tennis Singles at the H.K.C.C. yesterday,
Ho Ka-lau beat E. Zimmers, and qualified to meet Ng Sza- kwong. The match will be a most interesting one, as only last Sun- day the same pair had a hard tle in the Chinese R.C. Championship, in four which Ho Ka-lau won sets.
The Fincher brothers went fur- ther ahead in the Open Doubles by defeating W. C. Hung and Cheng Chi-wing in straight sets.
The full results of yesterday's matches were;—
Open Singles:-T. Honda beat Y. Sajiki 6-3, 6-2, 6-2; Ho Ka-lau beat E. Zimmern 6-0, 6-2, 6-0.

sneak a place.
Marquis Hall is another belong- ing to the same string who may be started instead of the first named of Mr. Ho Kom-tong's string, but whether he is good enough to get a place in a dla- tance event is more than I would like to say, as his training per- formances have been nothing to write home about.
The Goods will be a starter in the Derby, I suppose,
but I do not like his chance a bit, ae he is not a stayer in my idea which is an awful handicap, as staying ability is the greatest qualifica- tion in the Derby.
Silver Queen is rather a dark horse who has not much form to guide one. However, he is a very good finisher over a long journey and might be considered a good chance bet RS An outsider. Everything depends on this pony's behaviour at the barrier, as I be- lleve lie is not too fond of get- ting away with the rest of the field.
Gay Caballero is not much chop I am afraid; I mean, of course, as a Derby hope, as he cannot put any pace into his last run in the straight when the distance is more than one mile. He 'may have a better chance in shorter distances, where stamina is not really needed.
Apollo looks an easy mark for the Champions as I believe the only pony who had a chance of beating him has gone out of train- ing on account of Bome foot trouble.
African Eve is doing very easy training times, so it would appear to be a very difficult question to
answer as to whether he has suf- cient ability for the Derby.
