CHINESE NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS.
On Thursday, 30th January, the G.P.O. and Branch Post Offices will be entirely closed; on Friday, 31st January, and Saturday, 1st February, the G.P.O. will be open each day from 8 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. and the Branch Post Offices from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
On Thursday there will be no collection from the pillar boxes and no delivery by postmen but ordinary correspondence may be obtained at the back counter at the south-west corner of the Gen- eral Post Office Building, ground floor.
On Friday and Saturday there will be one collection from the pillar boxes, and one delivery of ordinary correspondence each day as on Sundays, and one delivery of registered correspondence each day at 9 n.m.
The Money Order Office will be entirely closed during the Holl- days.

The docision to enforce this rule was reached at yesterday's meeting of the Central Political Council following careful deliberations upon the present financial situation in consequence of the collapse in the silver market due to frenzied speculation. The discussion was led by the Finance Minister Mr. T, V. Soong and Dr. H. H. Kung.
The Ministry of Industry Com merce and Labour was also express ly instructed by the Council to carry out the above decision and to devise measures for the punishment of those wilfully ignoring the order of the Central Government by con- ducting left speculation outsido the Gold Bar Exchange in Shang- hai.
Another important decision of the Council was to request the State Council to taste a Mandate ordering
