Striking Sermon by the Vicar of St. Andrews

APPEAL TO REASON

The Dilicuit Problem of Disarmament

AMERICA'S ·" BABY "

A striking sermon on the possibilities of "The League of Nations" was delivered by the Vicar of St. Andrew's Church, Kow. loon, (the Rev. W. Walton Rogers, M.A.) at evensong yesterday.

The Vicar, in the course of his sermon, said that "the only agency, secking to fight the evils of aggressive warfare, traffic in women and children, deadly drugs, and sweated labour was directly the "League of Nations."

Mr. Rogers added that he hoped very much to see a branch of the League of Nations' Union in Hong Kong.

these things are not our concern, we should do well to silence it. Any one of them may affect our lives, or the lives of those dear more than we know, and a great war would certainly do so. It is freely said that there will be no "Eront" in the next war, and that all nationals of the nations concern ed will be regarded as combatants. Irrespective of age or sex.

There is no doubt from every point of view, that these matters are very definitely our concern.

There is no doubt also that in dealing with them International action is necessary.

The only agency seeking to fight these evils directly is the League of Nations. The Christian Church seeks to war against the spirit which makes such evils possible, rather than to attack them directly, This latter action demanda a specialised knowledge of the pro- blem concerned, and an organisation qualified to deal with it.
