Other Police Officials attached to the C.I.D. were absent from their offices, but were doubtlessly either at Head- quarters or at Kowloon conducting the examination of the suspects.

was some unusual 'bustle on the first floor, left wing, of the Headquarters building and officers were seen harry ing about on, the verandah entering and leaving the various inner offices-of- the C.I.D., admission to which could be had only by Police Officers,
It was not difficult to realise, how- ever, that the suspects are being examined there.

Tell-Tale Weapons
The rifics were of the old Lee-Enfield pattern with long barrels and no maga- zines. They are single shot rifles which have to be reloaded after each raund had been fired. From noter appearance they were not well keep. The barrels were rusty and one of the rifles had its sight knocked out, whilst on an- other there was a mark on the wood
of the butt which looked like blood- stain. The rifles seen by the "China Mail" man were all of military pat- tern, for, although antiquated, they had attachments for the fixing of bayonets,
