POPULAR SPORTSMAN FACES MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

DYING WORDS OF WOUNDED INDIAN WATCHMAN

The summary trial of the one time boxing "atar," Henry Mariott, popularly known as "Kid" Marriott, on a charge of manslaughter, was commenced this morning before Mr. W. Schofield at the Kowloon Magistracy.

The defendant is employed at the Hong Kong and Whampoa Docks.

The allegation against him is that he had

the afternoon of November 10, fired a shot at an Indian Watchman, Ojgar Singh, also employed by the Docks; and who later died of the wound re- ceived.

Mr. L. R. Andrewes, Assistant Crown Solicitor is prosecuting, and Mr. F. C. Jenkin, instructed by Messrs: Deacons, is for the defence.

DEFINITION OF CHARGE

Before outlining the case, Mr. Andrewes referred his Worship to Roscoe's Criminal Evidence in which

a definition of manslaughter was given.

The very unfortunate incident took place on Sunday, November 10,
