To-day's news shows less chance of war in the provinces adjacent to Hong Kong being averted. Further, fighting (presumably in a small way) is reported to have broken out already-at a time when trade should improve for the season before China New Year.
From Wuchow, the Royal Naval authorities report that the place remains, quict for the present.
Yesterday some troops were sent down the West River into Kwangtung, it is added. These must be Cantonese under General Chan Chai-tong (Commaner-in-Chief of Kwangtung and Kwangsi), who is supporting the National Government of Nanking. The num- ber is not mentioned but the men are probably being withdrawn to re- inforce Kwangtung's defences against the Ironsides who are moving into the NW. of Kwangtung, with Canton as their goal.

The steamer "Sun Kwei-yik” plying between Szewui and Waitsap was plundered on November 9 at a place known as Pailamkun, states the Canton News Agency.
The pirates, who were disguised as passengers, killed two guards on board and secured entire control of the vessel, carrying away valuables and goods amounting to $20,000 in addition to over seventy passengers being kidnapped for ransom.
