FASHION ON SHOW

British As Lovely As Parisian

do

Miss Marie Tempest opened re- rently the Fashion Exhibition at Olympla, and we had the oppor tunity of seeing once again just what British designers COR when pat on their mettle, As Miss Tempest herself remarked, many of the models are "eually as lovely us the best Parisian creations" and that, coming from a woman'

who has hitherto prided herself on being dressed exclusively by Paris, menos samething!

One reason one gets such a good impression at Olympia is that the manufacturers have co-operated more closely with their drus de signers than ever before, and are re- lying on their own creative ability to turn out gowns suitable to the British type of beauty. The de- mand for Paria models still exists, but it is not as emphatic as in former times, for the new school of home dress designers, who have been progressing rapidly during the last two or three years, have Important work of their own to display.

Picturesque Modes

There was never a year when feminine fashions, both in London and Paris, were more charming or more picturesque. The tali slender mannequins at Olympia, gliding across the arena in draped or founced dresses that toucherl the gmund, seemed to belong to an- other age, so little had they in com- mon with the shingled damsels of a year ago, with their straight, brief, 'one-piere frocks. One de- signer showed an evening frock in which there were a thousand yards

Silver is perhaps the best evening colour of all. But unfortunately it is only for the perfectly shaped foot. However, when the silvery sheen, is fashioned into diamond' und scale designs, we have a sequin effect, which weakens the magnify- ing qualities of allver, and tones down all glaring distortions,

SHORTS AND TROUSERS

There is an increasing demand for the shorts and trouser mode. SPORTS JEWELLERY

Necklet Of Woven-Silk Beads

Some of the new sports jewellery is very attractive. A new idea is the necklet of woven-silk beads al- ternating with ivory, the colour of the beads being carefully chosen in accordance with the rest of the dress scheme. A flat long chain of ivory links, at the end of which flat plaque containing powder and lip-stick looks very charming. and is practical as well.

Each hand was adorned with an enormous diamond solitaire. Very few

Women can afford such a brilliant display of wealth, but this seems to be the principle on which the fashionable woman is building this season. Rather a change from the "little and good" motto of our grandmother's day — though artificial gems are quite demode, the "good" remain. Quite a number of well-dressed women will avoid such exuberance; it is not every British woman who can carry it off successfully,
