Preliminary steps to ordinate the search for off in the Commonwealth were taken to-day, when representatives of of the oil interests in three States combined to form the Petroleum Association of Aus- tralasia.

Sir George Julius was ap- pointed chairman of the new association, and Sir Keith Smith, and Mesara, N. H. B. Keysor, George Crowley and Charles Macindoe vice-presid-

ents.

Mr. George Parkes (presid- ent of the Chamber of Com- merce), who presided at the meeting, quoted from the pros- pactus, and said it was import- ant that the association should function now rather than wait until one of the big prospecting companies achieved large com- mercial production.

Mr. AE. Broue said that no help could be expected from the big oil corporations abroad, whose business was to sell oil to Australia, and not to find it in Sydney.

Mr. A. J. Jones (late Minister for Mines in Queensland) said the position at Roma was better to-day than ever.

The prospects generally in Queensland were never bright-

er.

Mr. Jones was appointed a director of the association, and Mr. S. Keesing secretary. Each State will be given repre- sentation on the council-An Occasional Correspondent.
