Three Chinese were this morning. charged before Mr. E: W. Hamilton, at the Central Magistracy, with con- spiring for steal letters from private hoxes at Chinese premises at 44, Con- naught-road Central, third, floor: 54, Centre-street, third floor; and 20, Wing Lok-street, frat: floor.
The men, who wore atrested in Weat Point, all pleaded "not guilty.” They were not legally represented.
The case for the prosecution was 'con- ducted by Detective Sergeant Clemo, who said that the accused's arrest was brought about by a shopkeeper of the ground floor of 97, High-street, West Point. This man was in his shop when he saw the three accused come up and fool through the door of the stairs leading to the floors above. As soon a8 they saw the shopkeeper the areniąd walked away.
Strange Behaviour
The shopkeeper was suspicious of the accused's movements and decided to watch them. He saw the accused look into all the letter boxes ns they went down the street. His suspicion strengthened by this strange behaviour of the accused, the shopkeeper went off and informed a Chinese constable. When the shopkeper returned to High- Atreet with the constable, they were just in time to see the three ac- cused turn up Hin Hong-road.
