LI Ching (16) appeared at the Kowloon Magistracy before Mr. T. S. Whyte-Smith on Satur- day charged with the theft On September 24. of a golo dress watch, valued at $150;

a gold chain valued at $18; a gold and jade pendant valued at $10; 2 gold coin valued at $1; a gold fish valued at $5; a silver cigarette case valued at $10, and a blue serge jacket valued at $18; all the pro perty of Mr. Lei Bing-fan of 748- Nathan Road; Kowloon,

Defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.

Inspector Hoare, who prosecuted, stated that the defendant was seen by a Chinese-détective who was on duty at the junction of . Prinee Edward-road and Nathan-road at a.m. on September 24 to act in a auspicious way. He followed him, and when the defendant came to 748, he entered and went upstairs. The detective waited and then fol lowed him, bu: half way up he met him and, on searching him, found a silver cigarette case. After being questioned, the defendant admitted that he had stolen it from the first floor. He then took the detective with him to a spot on the hillside at Kowloon Tong, where all the other articles were recovered.

The total value of the stolen pro- perty was $215. His Worship, in remarking that it was a very big theft, sentented the defendant to five months' hard labour, and order. ed the articles to be restored to the complainant.

Previous convictions showed that the defendant had served 14 days In June this year for unlawful possession.
