The semi-final of the tennis doubles between M. K. and M. W. Lo and S. A. and H. D. Rumjahn in the C.A.A. Tournament was not played yesterday, owing to one of the Lo brothers being indiaposed. The Runjahn cousins in being given this wakover will now meet Liim Bong-so and John Lim in the final to-morrow.

Ottawa, Ont, July 31.. There were further pronounced increases in Canadian employment at the beginning of July, according to the Dominion Burasu of Statis- ties, which states that 6,819 firma employed 1,069,700 workers, or 23,109 more than on June 1. This advance, which was rather smailer than that recorded on July 1, 1928, brought the index number to 124.7. as compared with 122.2 in the pre. ceding month, and with 117.7, 109.7, 105.0, 98.0, 97.1, 100.7, 92.2 and 28.6 at the beginning of July in 1928, 1927, 1926. 1925, 1924, 1929, 1922 and 1921, respectively. The situa- tion continues decidedly more favourable than in any other month of the years since 1920, (when the record was begun) says the Bureau, pointing out that the curve of em ployment in Canada shows a new high peak at July 1.

Considerable improvement was registered in all industries except manufacturing and logging, which showed seasonal curtailment. The largest gains were reported in con- struction, transportation and vices, but the advances in mining, trade and communications also noteworthy.
