AQUATIC FETE

TWO RECORDS BROKEN BY COLONISTS

EXCITING STRUGGLE

The third aquatic night fete of the Victoria Recreation Club was greatly enjoyed by a large gathering on Satur- day evening. The gala was of special interest because of the team race be- tween the Singapore Chinese swin mers and the Victorians It was won by the home team after a close and exciting struggle.

The V.R.C. had a slight lead, thanks to their first man, W. Lawrence. E. Noronha was second man in for the Victorians and had the misfortune of swimming a 'crooked course which caused him to collide with the side of the bath. This caused him to lose one very precious second and the Singa- poreans took the lead.

Honte Team Lead This necessitated a change in the order of swimmers in the V.R.C. team. J. R. Johnstone who was have.gone in last entered the bath as third man, and thanks to a fast two, lengths. "Jimmy" not only closed the gap but again gave the home team the lead, which was kept up to the end, but it was a touch and go affair, S. V. Gittins, square the V.R.C.'s sixth man, finishing a bare fifth of a second in front of Wong Mau. yun, the Singapore champion, was captain, and last man for the Singapore team.
