SERGEANT DESERTS FAMILY FOR GEISHA GIRL

Japanese newspapers in Shanghai published

a story of one of the oldest dramas in the world-the eternal triangle. At the apex is a Japanese man, formerly a police sergeant; at the angles a geisha girl and

a wife.

In the back- ground two little children of the ex-sergeant.

The officer by chance met the geisha girl. Up to that time he had been happily married and a good father and husband. But the beauty of the winsome geisha of 22 years won his heart. He managed to raise a large sum of money and redeemed the girl from her master. He established a home for her,

The sergeant's conduct came to the ears of the Japanese Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tajima, who is stated to have reprimanded the officer, offering him another chance to return to his wife and family and to leave the geisha girl..

The officer had two choices. On one hand his pleading wife and little children: on the other a pretty' girl. He chose the girl, gave up his job and disappeared from his family. The mother and children are alone and penniless.

During a swimming gala, or- ganised by the Brighton Ladies' Swimming Club, at the West Pier, Brighton, a wooden platform col- lapsed, throwing a number of offi- cials into the sea. They were all rescued.

Mr. Cosgrave, President of the Executive Council, Irish Free State, formally opened the intake gates at the head race of the Shannon hydro-electric power

at zobemo Parteen Villa, O'Brien's Bridge, Co. Clare:
