FELT HATS
FOR COUNTRY POSTWOMEN AT HOME
Some hundreds of women in the rural districts of Britain are short- ly to be issued with hats, which they will have to wear for eighteen months, or longer, if renewal is not by then necessary, The hats will be of felt, and will have an oilskin covering of the "sou"-wester** shape, so as to carry the water off when it is raining.
The wearers will be the country postwomen, and their hats will be delivered to them on the order of Mr. H. B. Leos-Smith, the Post- master-General
Further details about the hats are nat forthcoming, except that they are in process of manufacture in the Midlands. It is not stated who designed them, and it is not even an nounced that they will be trimmed. with red tape.
Moreover, it is not known whether the women who are to wear them have been consulted. The inference is that they have not
been.

HOUSE DECORATION
OWNER'S, INDIVIDUALITY IN ORNAMENTS
The little boy's definition of a well as a hole with earth round it is not unlike the attitude of most of us regarding concrete things. A cere- monial occasion is not a thing by it- self, but a hole round which are dress and company and attitudes. ! Similarly dress is not a thing by
itself, but an 'occasion,
a function, a good deal of which con- eists in putting it on to the best ad- vantage.
Owners of houser have to deal with walls and the foundations, but the spirit of the house lies in the intimacy given it, the personal note, the feeling of ownness created by a number of odd thing the doyzcut, the children's gardens, the decoration which sym- bolizes ail the owner feels for it. To some extent this also applies to publis ownership, and still more cer- tainly to ngh intimables as the motor, which has been so carefully chosen, 01' the ornament. pure

HOLIDAY COMPLEXION
SUNBURN DOES NOT SUIT
EVERY ONE
In the London "Daily Telegraph" Audrey Wrangham writes:
I watched a woman in the green and matre salons of a Mayfair beauty specialist choosing the beauty preparations that were to form 28 important part of her hol- day luggage. First of all there were three shades, differentiated by For
numbers, of sunburn lotion. each of these there were numbered powders and rouges to match.
A cleaning lotion was supplied to take off the sunburn twice a day,
or as often as the face is cleaned of its make-up, and a skin food to
leave on the skin at night to pro- vide the nourishment and protec tive grease that is not contained in the sunburn lotions.
That was a comprehensive outfit for a woman who was going to pay visits in the country and abroad, who did not tan very easily and whe did but want to give up much of her holiday lo elaborate make-up.
Instant Sunburn
It is necessary to be smart and up to date to appear sunburned on the very day of one's arrival by the sea or in the country, hence the No. I lotion, which can be replaced by No. 2 when the sun has had a chance of deeponing an artificial sunburn. No. 1 combined with a distinctly pinky-orange shade of
rouge remains the most successful al night when black as well as colours may be worn, and jewels. No. 3 sanburn lotion with mandarin yellow rouge is intended for those who burn easily or are determined to become a deep bronze.

It is painted out that, among the things that women hate most, are:

"Sunburn does not suit everyone, but everyone is determined to have it." a beauty specialist confided, and because she dreads to SEC some skins ruined by the injudi cious use of sunburn appliances she has issued a warning to her clients against any dyes.
There are, of course, dyes now on the market to produce deep sun- burn which cannot be removed. sometimes for weeks.

Referring to these elections, Lady Wyndham, who presided, said: "We feel we have advanced a step to keep up with the times. We also now have a lady on the committee-Dame May Whitty while Miss Lilian Braithwaite and Miss Eva Moore have promised to

A humorous touch to the meeting was given by Sir Gerald du Maurier, who, in proposing a vote of thanks to Lady Wyndham, turned his back on the members and gave a sham speech to an imaginary audience.
Here are all the wonderful modern forces marshalled in the simplest of modern idioms. Here is not only a train, but Speed in the modernised form of Turner's train. In this design the water is reduced to an
