BOARDING HOUSE RUNNERS AT LOGGERHEADS
A fight between five Chinese boarding house runners on board the J.C.J.L. 9:8. "Tjitaroem" on July 24, resulted in three of the men being charged before Mr. T. S. Whyte-Smith, at the Kowloon Magistracy, with assaulting the other
two.
The first accused, who was in charge
of a commission agent's business,
said that on the day in question he sent two of his fckis to the s.s. "Tjitaroem," and two others (the other accused) to the a.. "Tibiciak." Later he was in- formed of a quarrel between his em- ployees and the complainants. First accused admitted that he had trouble with complainants in April on the 6.s. "Tileabang." but denied that he had taken part in the quarrel of July 24.
The Magistrate, who convicted, was told that in the fight one of the com- plainants was stabbed and the other
rivalry for passengers who had come thrown overboard. The quarrel was
from Swatow on the 5.5. "Titarvem."
First accused was fined $75 or six" weeks' jail, and the other two, $25 or three weeks' hard labour.
All the parties were bound over in the sum of $50 each to keep the peace for six months.
