Plymouth is the gateway into Eng- land from the cecan. It geographical position at the entrance to the English, Channel, together with its sheltered position, make it a natural anchorage on this side of the great ferry between America and Europe.

Plymouth Sound, where the ocean liners ancher, is a deep and broad har bour, protected by a mile long break- water, where a whole ravy may ride out the fiercest storm in perfect safe. ty. It is the easiest harbour on the coast to make and the services be-

Passengers landing at Plymouth take advantage of the shortest sca passage. They avoid the voyage through the narrow and populous waters of the Channel to the more easterly ports and save many hours on the journey to London or, indeed, to any part of the British Isles.
