Recently there was launched at the biggest French shipyard, to the ac- count of the largest French shipping company, the greatest motor-vessel so far ordered by a French firm; special Interest thus attaches to the ceremony, which was attended by M. The "Lafayette" has a length of 184m. overall and 175m. between per- pendiculars, a breadth of 23.5m moulded and of 25.20m. at Lue pro menade deck, a depth of 15.25m, and a draft of 925m. baded, the corres- ponding displacement being about

26,550 tons. The gross tonnage will

be about 22,000 tons, and the dead. weight capacity in approximately 0,250 tons.

Accommodation is to be provided for 639 cabin-class passengers, 382 tourists and 108 third-class passen- gers, which, added to 472 officers and crew, makes a grand total of 1,551 on board. All passengers will have cabin accommodation. It is learned that
