hard day's work by Mr. Denis H. Hazell, a constant visitor to Hong Kong, who took the above pictures on the FORMER HONG KONG MAN'S PHOTOS OF THE ECLIPSE OF THE SUN-The result of a roof of the Europe Hotel, Singapore, on May 9 Though the first stage started at 12.30 p.m., what with the rush, clouds, etc., Mr. Hazell could not get anything until 12.55 p.m. At 1.30 p.m. was reported totality, or the the photos show it to be nearer 90 per cent. IMMORTAL SHRINE.-China's magnificent tribute to her late leader, Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The mausoleum, now one of the great world memorials, was designed by Mr. Y. C. Lu, a young Chinese architect, in a world-wide competition. Top view shows the entrance to the shrine, and below is a rear view of the tomb from the hillside.
PAGEANT OF WOMEN'S MOVEMENT. - Although the above photo might have. been taken here it is of a pageant organised by Mrs. Arthur Croxton, depicting the his- tory of the International Council of Women. The group represents, left to right, Italy, China and India. The two Chinese fashions are now about a year-if not more-behind the times, the long gown being now worn more elegantly and less gorgeously and the com- bination is apt to be more tight-fitting.-(Sport and General).
"CONTRAST IN ARCHITECTURE OF CHINESE BRIDGES.-On the left is the Drum Bridge, in Chekiang province, with a large archway underneath, so that even big junks can go up or down the waterway. The face of the bridge is like a stairway--purposely made so as to prevent vehicular traffic. On the right is the Bow Bridge at Peking, with only a small arch for the tiny rowing boat and a sloping roadway to enable things on wheels to cross the river.
BIRDS' NEST SOUP. Photo showing how seabirds' eggs are gathered on the cliffs at Flamborough, Yorkshire. The collect- ing of birds' nest for the famous Hong Kong soup delicacy is
much less perilous.-(Sport and General).
