SELF-GOVERNMENT DEMAND
Simla, Saturday. Presiding
the over
Indian States Subjects Conference, Mr. Chintamani, the leading Indian publicist, declared that the Bri- tish-Indian politicians had not given up their attitude of non- Intervention in regard to the In- dian States because "we want the whole of India under a constitu- tional Swaraj (self-government), neither one part under & dis- honouring alien sway nor another under an autocratic though in digenous rule."
Mr. Chintamani asked the Princes to prove their sympathy for British-Indian aspirations by converting themselves into con- stitutional rulers. He urged the leading Indian political organisa- tions to draw up a Federal Con- stitution for India guaranteeing the States the same autonomous status as the provinces and urged an independent enquiry into the financial and economic relations of the two Indias.
He concluded: "Given co-opera- tion between the States and the provinces Swaraj must be ours as
to-morrow's sun surely as rise the East."-Reuter.

PRIESTS KILLED
SET UPON BY 30 BANDITS
MOTIVE UNKNOWN
With reference to the recenti murders in Hunan, the "Hankow: Herald" says that it is now learned that the three Passionists Fathers, of the American Catholic Mission, Rev. Clement Seybold, the Rev. Walter Coveyon and the Rev. God- frey Holbein, were on their usual tour of mission work when they were set upon by 30 bandit-soldiers at Hwa Chia, Hunan, and shot.
The motive for the murders is un- known as the Fathers had nothing of value on them, though it may be surmised the bandits on discovering their mistake decided to venge die- appointment by taking their lives. situated in the district Hwa Chia of Chenki on the mail route to Yuanchow, Hunan.
The servants of the missionaries were released and immediately re- turned to Chenki carrying details | of the cruel outrage.
On the following day, April 27, the Rev. Anthony Maloney and the Rev. Miles McCarthy, attached to the Passionists Mission, with a bodyguard of 90 soldiers from The Ryan monoplane, piloted by Chenki, set out for the scene of the R. L. Robbins and J.
