The rapid development in power projects and other engineer- ing works at widely separated points throughout Canada has created a demand for rolling stock capable of handling unusual- ly heavy and bulky shipments such as transformers, rotors, etc.

In order to take care of ba sinses of this kind, the Canadian Pacific Railway recently put into service two depressed centre al steel flat cars which were designed by the Mechanical Depart- ment and built at the Angus Shops.

These cars are 53 9 long inside the Coupler Knuckles. The centre portion is depressed so that the height from the rail to the top of the deck is 24", and the portion which is avail- able for loading is 22. long.

The weight is 89,700 th, and they will carry a load of 225,300 lb. Six wheel tracks with rolled steel wheels are used
